Sponsor A Teacher

Frequently Asked Questions are below.

Temperate Forest Foundation is pleased to offer companies in the forest products industry in North America the opportunity to sponsor teachers in upcoming National Teachers' Tours. The Foundation produces the tours, but does not sponsor Teachers. Using the information you provide, we'll send you the name or names of qualified teachers in your region requiring a sponsor.

More information on teacher qualification, tour locations, and a sponsor's role can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) on the Teachers' Tours page. Generally, a sponsor pays a $700.00 registration fee and round trip transportation costs to the tour. All other costs are covered once the teacher arrives at the tour site.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who selects the teacher?

Ideally, you do. You being the sponsor. Generally, this is a local teacher that you or an employee knows, or learn of through a school principal. Choosing a teacher on your own ensures that you'll develop the business/education partnership that the Foundation seeks to create. For those wishing to sponsor a teacher, but who aren't able to find a teacher, please contact the Foundation for a list of teachers in your state who are interested. Filling out the Sponsor Application online is the best method of informing us of your interest.

How much does it cost to sponsor a teacher?

Temperate Forest Foundation recommends that teachers attend the tour closest to them. The cost to sponsor a teacher is $700 (registration fee), plus the teacher's travel expenses (by plane, train, bus, or car is up to you and your teacher; travel does not usually go over $500). Since the tour concludes on a Saturday morning, your teacher might need to stay over Saturday night (to get low airfare, etc). If so, you or your teacher will need to make a hotel reservation for that Saturday night. You are responsible for this expense as well as the teacher's meals that day and Sunday during travel (a Saturday night stay is usually necessary for the lowest airfares; this extra expenditure should not go over $250). You may also choose to provide the teacher with a small stipend to purchase film, T-shirts, or other mementos of his/her trip; however, this is not a requirement. The cost of sponsoring a teacher is typically anywhere from $700-$1,200 depending on your proximity to the tour.

Who pays for the teacher's hotel room and food during the tour?

The $700 registration fee covers all room and board charges from Wednesday afternoon through Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Once the teacher arrives at the tour, he/she will be treated as a VIP (this is not an exaggeration!). Local companies participating in the tour program host most meals.
