Forestinfo.org: Brief History

The Temperate Forest Foundation (TFF) was founded in 1989 in Portland, Oregon. From 1989-2010, the Foundation helped people move toward the positive vision of living sustainably, with the successful integration of economic, ecological, and social needs. A central message throughout was that we must take from life to live, but we must also put something back. We must understand that the responsible consumption and production of natural resources go hand-in-hand; this is the Circle of Life. As a forest-focused organization, TFF long stressed that forests, trees, wood and other services provided by forests play a vital role in supporting human populations and quality for life. At the same time, responsible production and use of wood is critically important for a full suite of benefits as well.

In April 2010, the Temperate Forest Foundation closed its doors. Through actions taken by the TFF Board, Dovetail Partners assumed responsibility for the delivery and maintenance of the forestinfo.org website and many of the products and educational materials that TFF created.

In 2011, Dovetail redesigned and redeveloped the old Temperate Forest Foundation website and integrated resources that previously existed on our environmental education website - the F.R.E.E. Network. The end result is Dovetail's new one-stop site for environmental education resources. Materials from the F.R.E.E. Network, including Teachers' Tools, Teaching Units, and Research References, have been transferred to this site and can be found under the "Teachers" tab in the menu bar.
