Idaho Department of Fish and Game's hatchery is located just below the Dworshak

dam. The hatchery raises salmon and steelhead. Hatchery raised fish supplement

the declining population of wild fish.

Jerry McGehee shows Bob Legg and Ron Fatzinger how to use map which lights up

to show salmon habitat in Idaho before and after the dams were constructed.

These pools are where the salmon and steelhead are raised before being released into the river for their eventual journey to the ocean.

Many will return to the hatchery to spawn. Anadromous fish must change their physiology in estuaries as they transition from

fresh water to salt water and then back again when they migrate upriver to spawn.
