We toured the Potlatch tree nursery, paper mill and the consumer products line

where paper products you see in stores come from. The Potlatch complex in

Lewiston, Idaho combines a sawmill, paper mill, cogeneration and a tree nursery.

Chips from the sawmill are pulped to make paper. and the waste is burned to

generate steam and electricity. It's a perfect place to see complete utilization

of the forest resources.

The office uses the high tech tools such as the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS).  Information Technology is used to collect spatial data and to do Modeling programs.  Modern Forestry depends as much on computer technology as Paper mills and sawmills.

Right & Below: Potlatch recently had to shutdown it's

Jaype Plywood  Mill in Pierce Idaho due to a lack

of logs from public lands. This is having devastating

social and economical consequences.
