This wheel loader is equipped with a log fork. |
Logs are steamed to ensure that they are easily pealed to veneers. Plywood quality logs are referred to as peeler logs or veneer logs. |
Logs are peeled into sheets of veneer on a lathe at the Potlatch Plywood Mill in St. Maries. These veneers are laid at right angles to one another and glued together to form sheets of plywood. |
This is a "peeler core" which is what's left after a log is peeled into veneer. This can be used as a fence post or made into chips for the paper mill.
These stacks of veneers will be used to create sheets of plywood. |
