Wednesday Afternoon and Evening

The tour began at the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-Tec) at Bay College with an orientation followed by dinner at the Hereford & Hops Restaurant and Brewery.


Registration

Super 8 Motel Photo 2003 Lake States Teachers' Tour participants were lodged at the Super 8 Motel in Escanaba. As teachers arrived throughout the day on Wednesday they checked into their rooms and registered for the tour with the foundation staff.

Orientation at the Michigan Technical Education Center (M-Tec)

At 5PM teachers were shuttled from the hotel to the The Michigan Technical Education Center at Bay College for the tour's orientation (and Saturday closing presentation.) Bob Legg, President of the Temperate Forest Foundation welcomed teachers and gave the tour introduction.

Keynote Presentation

Introductions were followed by a keynote presentation by Bill Cook. Bill offered teachers a primer to Michigan's Upper Peninsula including Forest History and Facts, geology, forest ecology, common species, silviculture, Harvest Systems...see http://forestry.msu.edu/msaf/TFF-UPforest.htm.
